Doggie Lawn {Review & Giveaway}

About Doggie Lawn:
DoggieLawn is based in Los Angeles and was started in 2011 in an effort to find a more eco-friendly alternative to the pet potty products out there. Synthetic grass or plastic ”wee-wee pads” are horrible for the environment because they do not break down in landfills and their synthetic contents take copious amounts of energy to produce and transport.

Born out of this problem was DoggieLawn! Our service is designed to minimize all these issues. It’s an easy way for dog owners to allow their dogs access to a bathroom yet does not require  all the extra work that other pet potty boxes required.

What Bella reviewed:
Doggie Lawn Standard

The Doggie Lawn is a pretty neat concept. Every week or every other week the company sends you fresh grass for your little furry friend to do its business on. This alternative is eco-friendly in many ways! Once you are done with the box it is biodegradable/recyclable; something you can't say about artificial turf. They are also extremely easy to manage. No gross clean up needed! I think what I liked best about this product was the smell of the grass. It was fresh and added a little outdoors to the indoors. Bella liked the grass too! She played in it as well as used it for potty purposes. At first I didn't know if she would understand what to do with it (still being a potty training puppy) but she did.

Bella checking out her Doggie Lawn!

This is perfect for...
  • House training
  • Fur baby owners living in an apartment or condo
  • Cold or rainy weather
  • Eco-friendly alternative to potty pads
Getting started is easy! First, head to the Doggie Lawn website and set up an account. Then every other week a new doggie lawn gets shipped right to your door. The box is $15 plus an additional $10 for shipping. Once you get the box place the lawn where the dog can access it and you are done. Now you and your dog will be happy campers. The only maintenance on your part is picking up solids and watering the grass every few days.

  1. I remember about 18 years ago I had a mixed labrador, whose name was Bubba. Well, Bubba had a thing for turtles, He just loved them..well to make a long story short, we ended up adopting a box turtle that we named Bubba 2, because wherever that turtle was at in the yard, so was Bubba!

  6. My best memory of my dog Dotty is when she was born on Christmas Eve 6 years ago. She was the runt of the litter, the only female, and was all white with a big brown spot over her eye. We named her Dotty - our version of the traditional name "Spot".

  7. I learned that the lawn is in a disposable box and arrives every other week. I think this would be great for times when I can't let my dog out while I'm working or on day trips, or in the winter when it's really cold and snowy (here in MN). My only question is, will it smell pretty bad or is it kind of like a litter box?

    1. Hello Emma,

I was wondering about the smell too but I haven't had a problem with it at all.

  12. It wasn't on the website, but I emailed them about using this product with cats. They said they didn't know that anyone uses it as a litter box alternative, but that some cat owners get it so their cats can lounge and play on it. If I won, I might be the first person to try and use it as a litter alternative!

One of my favorite memories is when I first got my kitty Penny. She was a stray, and I discovered her hiding under the car outside (in the middle of July in Arizona). I heard her pathetic mews from inside. She was only a few months old, but quite feisty and afraid. It took probably an hour to get her out from under there, and in the end I had to trick the poor thing into following a trail of food into a 'trap' I made with a hamper. Once inside, she immediately found a hidey-hole in my bedroom, and stayed there for hours. I let her be, gave her a bowl of food and water, and a day and a half later she finally came around. I had been staying in my bedroom with her all that time, just doing stuff and 'ignoring' her. She would creep out once in a while, but if I looked at her, she would scurry back to her hiding spot. One of the times I went out to get food, she sort of flipped a bit at my return, demanding pets and attention. I guess she finally decided I was 'momma', and momma isn't allowed to leave.

  19. I had a boxer named Abigail who was our family's first dog. Every Christmas she would get this one toy, who was a cat burglar. Literally if we asked her where is burglar? where is he? She would Fetch him. So for Christmas we got her the burglar as usual. In the middle of filming us kids unwrap presents. She runs up to the tree and picked out ONLY her toy and commenced to rip open the paper herself!! Like she knew or something :) I seriously love animals.

My dog Bella has her favorite treats and knows where it find them. She always tries to open the bag herself but then looks to her mama for assistance :)

  20. I learned that it is soiless, and not like regular sod. I think my aunt would love this for her chihuahua. She has a house and takes her out regularly to use the bathroom but sometimes it is just too cold when it snows, or if it snows too much she can't get to the grass!

    1. It's great for that. Bella is a Chi and she loves the grass. It is the perfect size for her and she picked up very quickly what that area is for.

  22. Oh my favorite memory is when I got Murphy! I had just lost my previous dog suddenly to illness and was devistated. My sister and I were out shopping and she had to stop at our local petstore and get treats for her dog. Turned out it was adoption days from one of our local shelters. I fell in love with a dog named Murphy who had been looking for a new forever for many many months to no avail. He had lost 1/2 his weight and was so sad. I could not afford him that day...so we left. A few days later it was Halloween....about time for trick or treaters to come...the doorbell rang...and I thought it was my first trick or treater...and it was Murphy is a pumpkin costume! My sister and son knew how much I wanted him...and they arranged to get him for me. Oh....I cried so hard. Murphy and I have been best buds ever since! He has gained his weight back and is so happy! :) And...me too! :)

  23. My favorite pet moment was a dog I rescued from the pound as a teenager. She was an older hound mix dog and so sweet. She put her paw up to the door of the kennel everytime we passed by. Turns out it was last her day and she was going to be euthanized that evening. So glad I got to save her she was a wonderful dog!

  25. I have a cute story from last night. I was snuggling with my cat in bed. Well, my pug, who is very jealous, decided the cat had too much of my attention. He walks up and lays on top of the cat, causing him to flee from the bed.
